[Alas, that's not a very nice greeting to someone (literally) dropping by to help. But the warrior's confusion was apt. Given the danger this swordsman held in his experience, fitting.
It is for that reason that he braces his shield arm. For that reason he points the sword directly at the other. For that reason his knees bend as he prepares to lunge straight toward him, and-
-suddenly, there's a crash of stinking water. The creature, the zolom, knocks the warrior sideways with a heaving sweep of its tail in attempt to force him to the depths. He was unprepared. He was struck. But even then, he can adapt.
As he hurtles to the side, a wave of shining, flashing light bursts from the ground before him, tearing the muddy ground asunder. It strobes upward to the heavens, before disappearing. Immediately, the earth between that and the zolom is torn apart in the same way. Over and over and over- the light arcing it's way toward the serpent.
...And Sephiroth too, if he were between the warrior and the creature. ]
